Rare conditions are those that affect fewer than 200,000 people in the United States. There are currently over 7,000 rare diseases, with still others not yet formally discovered, affecting over 30 million Americans. Many rare conditions are chronic, progressive, and can be life-threatening. Diagnosis can be challenging due to the complexity and sometimes limited awareness of these conditions.
